Oscar Wilde was an Irish author, poet and playwright who became a key figure of the Aestheticism movement of the late nineteenth century. Known for his epigrammatic wit, his plays and criticism, together with his own flamboyant public persona, made him the best known English language exponent of the idea of art for art's sake.
