Sophocles

Sophocles was an ancient Greek tragedian, one of three from the classical era from whom at least two plays survive complete. He wrote more than 120 plays, of which seven survive whole: Ajax, Antigone, Women of Trachis, Oedipus Rex, Electra, Philoctetes, and Oedipus at Colonus. For almost fifty years he was the most celebrated playwright in the dramatic competitions of Athens, competing in thirty contests, winning twenty four, and never placing lower than second. He influenced the development of drama by adding a third actor to the stage, reducing the importance of the chorus, and his Theban plays featuring Oedipus and Antigone remain his most famous work.
