A historical novel by the Mexican writer Carlos Fuentes, published in 1962 as La muerte de Artemio Cruz. Told in fragmented, shifting narrative voices across the final day in the life of its title character, a corrupt and dying tycoon who rose from the Mexican Revolution, it traces his moral compromises against the broader arc of Mexico's revolutionary and post-revolutionary history and is regarded as one of the foundational novels of the Latin American Boom.
