A Jacobean-era pastoral tragicomedy by John Fletcher, most likely first performed around 1608, that inaugurated Fletcher's playwriting career. Unlike the great majority of his later output, written jointly with Francis Beaumont and other collaborators, it is a work of his sole authorship, and it helped establish tragicomedy as a distinct dramatic form on the English stage.
