The Ugly Duckling, published in Danish as Den grimme aelling, is a Danish literary fairy tale by the Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen, first published on 11 November 1843 alongside three other tales to great critical acclaim. The story, an original tale by Andersen rather than an adaptation of an existing folk story, has been adapted to various media including opera, musical and animated film.
