German Literary Expressionism was a modernist movement in poetry, prose and drama that flourished mainly in Germany and Austria between about 1910 and 1930, appearing through journals such as Der Sturm and Die Aktion. Its poets, among them Georg Trakl, favored intense subjective feeling, distorted imagery and a visionary, often apocalyptic tone over realist description.
